The Director-General of Project Coordination, José Luis Villanueva, attended the press conference in order to announce the filming of the international production ‘Triage’.

For Villanueva “with the making of this war film, the Ciudad de la Luz complex has once again demonstrated the versatility and quality of its modern installations, which are suitable for hosting all manner of film productions”.

Villanueva has also underlined “the large scale internationalisation and prestige that hosting a film such as 'Triage', which recollects the topic of such cultural significance as the Balkans War, gives to the city of Alicante and the Valencian Community”.

“Through this film, new stars are added to the heaven of Ciudad de la Luz, such as Colin Farrell, Christopher Lee and Paz Vega”, Villanueva asserts.

Triage, drama in the Balkans

‘Triage’ is a full-length feature film set during the Balkans War and directed by the Bosnian director Danis Tanovic, winner of the Oscar for Best Non-English Language Film in 2001. The movie is based on the original literary work of the American journalist Scott Anderson and stars actors Chistopher Lee, Colin Farell and Paz Vega, an actress who is returning to Ciudad de la Luz after her experience in 2006 with ‘Theresa, the body of Christ’, by Ray Loriga.

This war drama tells the story of Mark, a graphic reporter who returns from the Kurdistan War with the physical and psychological traumas brought on by the disappearance of his friend, David. Little by little, Mark begins to investigate, slowly uncovering the clues to resolve the mystery of David's disappearance.

‘Triage’ effectively constitutes a 'full-house' at the installations of the Ciudad de la Luz industrial audiovisual complex for the 10 weeks of filming, pre-production, assembly and disassembly of sets and post-production.

It is a European co-production between Ireland (Parallel Films Ltd), France (ASAP Films) and Spain (Tornasol, Castafiore Films and Freeform Spain); in association with: Aramid Entertainment, Irish Film Board, Sofica Coficup, Backup Films, and Hanway Films.

The production team has used several location from across the Valencian Community, such as Alicante, Xixona, Elx and El Sabinar valley in Sant Vicent del Raspeig.

Impact for the Valencian Community

The new Danis Tanovic film has a total budget of 9,800,000 Euros and has meant a direct economic benefit of 2,800,000 Euros for the Community.

A total of 3,000 overnight stays have been reserved in hotels across the Alicante province. With these economic figures one should add that the number of people employed in Alicante by the production houses exceeds a total of 80.

In addition, a total of 42 of the Community's businesses have participated in the project, and 300 extras have participated in 391 "extra" sessions.

As on other occasions throughout the three years of the audiovisual complex's activity, the production of this film will have a considerable impact on the Valencian Community, thanks to the generation of jobs and the contracting of businesses and services, such as camera and lighting equipment, acuatic teams, hotels, transport, security, travel agents, dubbing, set contruction and casting and extras teams.
