Rodríguez Galant: “Ciudad de la Luz demonstrates its endorsement of new technologies with the filming of ‘Linko’.”

The General Director of Ciudad de la Luz, José María Rodríguez Galant, attended the meeting with the media held to announce the filming of the animation film ‘Linko’ by Alicante-born director, David Valero.

Rodríguez Galant highlighted that “Ciudad de la Luz demonstrates its endorsement of new technologies with the filming of ‘Linko’, for it is the first animation film to be made in Spain that combines the modern three-dimensional technique with the participation of real actors.”

Rodríguez Galant also underlined the fact that in the filming of ‘Linko’ “a 3D animation technology" is being employed, that "besides giving the work the appearance of a video game, allows the creation of fabulous locations without exorbitant production costs.”

3D Animation

‘Linko’ is a self-penned feature film made using animation technology, employing an advanced filming technique that consists of creating 3D backgrounds and with real characters filmed against a chroma green screen. The main cast of ‘Linko’ comprises Manel Barceló, Críspulo Cabezas, Yolanda Ulloa as well as actors from the Region of Valencia, Daniel Carrillo, Juan Trigueros and Morgan Blasco.
With this technique the characters are subjected to a pictorization treatment in post-production, which, though they continue to be perfectly recognizable, gives them a video game appearance, as in the films ‘Polar Express’, ‘300’ and ‘Dogville’.

The producers participating in the shooting of the film, which took place from July 14 to August 8 at the Study Center film sets, are Alicante-based Jaibo Films (‘My Grandmother's House’ by Adán Aliaga), IB Cinema (‘Estigmas’) and the Catalonian firm Nadir Films.

Further investment in the Region of Valencia

The production, which has used the film sets for a period of 6 weeks, has a budget of 1,500,000 euro and has meant direct investment in the Region of 800,000 euro. A total of 180 overnight stays were booked in hotels in Alicante.

A total of 10 business from the Region have also participated in the project and 45 extras sessions were required, with 15 extras being signed up. Additionally, these data indicating the impact of the filming must also take into account the 54  people, from technicians to artists, that have been signed up by the production firms.

Apart from the technicians and extras signed up, five students currently taking courses at the Ciudad de la Luz Study Center have actively participated in the filming of ‘Linko’.
