The second vice president and regional councillor of Economy, Finance and Occuopation, Gerardo Camps, has stated today that Ciudad de la Luz is "a safe bet, an economic engine and a reference focus for the audiovisual sector that strengthens the diversification and produces a dragging effect on other economic sectors in Alicante and the Valencian Community".
Gerardo Camps has made these statements during the visit he has made this morning at Ciudad de la Luz, where he has been watching the last works on the new administrative building of the complex, and he has also seen different details of the shooting of the films 'el sueño de Iván' and 'The Impossible'. About that film, Camps has indicated that today will arrive the leading actress, Naomi Watts, and that Scottish actor Ewan McGregor will arrive in a few days.
Indeed, the national and international shootings at Ciudad de la Luz are, in the opinion of vice president, "the sign of a consolidated and effective project, which according to the IVIE, has brought an impact of over 370 million euros between the construction and the operation of the studios."
A total of 50 productions and an impact of 122 million €
Gerardo Camps also referred to the figures generated by the 50 productions shot at the studios since 2005: 122 million € of economic impact, 1,800 contracts with companies in the Region, more than 2,700 jobs and 132,000 overnight stays in hotels. He also noted that both the production of films and the maintenance of the facilities represent 1.1% of gross added value to the economy of Alicante and 1.47% of the employment, according to the IVIE.
Ciudad de la Luz has 11,000 square meters of sound stages, 11,200 meters of warehouses and workshops, and 12 hectares of back-lots, including a water tank. Moreover, it has become a flagship facility, that makes compatible the training and employment, thanks to the -Centro de Estudios Ciudad de la Luz- fim school.
