This contest, which is held annually, is aimed at all students at Apple Authorized Training Centers for Education (AATC) of Europe. This year it has involved young people from universities and audiovisual training centers from fourteen European countries.

'Black Queen' is a co-production of the Centro de Estudios Ciudad de la Luz and the University of Film and Television in St. Petersburg, made possible thanks to the collaboration agreement signed between both institutions, to develop a student exchange program.

Initially, the students from Ciudad de la Luz moved to the University of St. Petersburg and then in a second phase, the students from that institution visited the Spanish studios. Students from both institutions have worked together in making free-form short films with the only guideline topic of chess.

The award-winning short film tells the love story that emerges between a boy and a girl through the streets of Alicante thanks to the random loss of a piece of chess.

In this occasion, the jury was composed by the producer and songwriter Ash Atalla, the creator of music videos and screenwriter Chris Cunningham and conceptual artist Dan Maslen.

Audiovisual Promotion

This short film, as well as those sent to other festivals have been promoted by the Development and Promotion Department for the Audiovisual (DDPA) from the Centro de Estudios Ciudad de la Luz.

This department manages the audiovisual and multimedia projects of the students, and provides the necessary resources to perform their productions. This training method can enhance creativity and encourage the involvement of students in the professional world.

Another mission of the DDPA is to give the widest distribution to the short films made by students in film festivals, cinemas, televisions and markets.

At the moment, after passing the selection of a jury of teachers at the Centro de Studios, the DDPA ha sent to different film festivals the following short films: 'In the Country of the Blind', directed by Daniel Viñedo, 'Eight', directed by Ray Marhuenda and Daniel de Andres (co-produced with the Film and Television University of St. Petersburg), 'Black Queen' by Nereah Marcén, and 'Beyond the evolution' by Cristian Valenciano.
