The I Conferences of the Spanish Audiovisual Sector focus on art direction.
The presence of Gil Parrondo, Félix Murcia, Josep Rosell and Antxón Gómez, winners of several Oscar and Goya awards, will be a highlight
On May 13 and 14 next year, the Ciudad de la Luz Study Center is to hold the I Professional Conference of the Spanish Audiovisual Industry. This series, focusing on Art Direction, will bring together recognised, professional specialists from within this industry sector, who will take part in various conferences and talks identifying the key elements of a task whose primary objective is that of developing set decoration and the staging of a film.
Among the professionals who are to actively participate in the conferences and meetings, one will find the most prestigious and recognised art directors of Spanish cinema, such as the seasoned Gil Parrondo, winner of several Goya awards and two Oscars for ‘Blood and Guts’ and ‘Nicholas and Alexandra’; Félix Murcia, the National Prize for Cinematography in 1999; Josep Rosell, the winner of the Goya for ‘The Orphanage’ and who brought us ‘Lolita´s Club’ –filmed in Ciudad de la Luz and Alicante-, and Gumersindo Andrés, a professional who has worked on titles such as ‘Cromwell’ and ‘El hombre de una tierra salvaje’ and alongside directors such as Michelangelo Antonioni in ‘Profession: reporter’.
Médem and Almodóvar collaborators
All those listed above will also be graced by the presence of art director Antxón Gómez, who on several occasions has worked alongside Pedro Almodóvar in films such as ‘All About My Mother’ and ‘Talk To Her’ and who has recently finished a project with the director Steven Soderbergh; Montse Sanz, art director of choice of director Julio Médem, and the professional and Cuban teacher Derubin Jácome.
Those who attend these Conferences will also be able to hear the conferences given by the authors of several works on art direction and scenography, such as architect Jorge Gorostiza, film critic Jesús García de Dueñas and writers Asier Mensuro and Ignacio Fernández Mañas.
Large professional presence
With the presence of these experts, the Ciudad de la Luz Study Centre reaffirms its active contribution to the audiovisual world and associated professionals. To date, the Study Center has organized conferences and master classes, such as those by the presitigious photographic director Vittorio Storaro, the film director Pablo Berger, the soundtrack composer Nacho Mastretta, the actor, producer and director Carles Sans, the producer Pedro Costa and Sandra Hermida, the production director of ‘The Orphanage’.
These professionals will be joined in the future by other influential figures from within the national and international cinematographic industry, in a bid to strenghten the links between professional training and the audiovisual sector.
