Bollywood producers visit Ciudad de la Luz
The Ciudad de la Luz cinematographic studios have welcomed visits from five companies within the audiovisual sector of the hugely influential Indian film industry, Bollywood.
The primary goal of this visit, apart from their getting to know the installations of the Alicante-based industrial complex, is to introduce the Indian cinematographic industry to various areas and sites within the Valencian Community that could be considered as potential locations for future movies by the Bollywood production company.
The Director-General of Project Coordination, José Luis Villanueva, has underlined the importance of such a meeting with the main Bollywood producers, for “the Indian film industry is the one that generates the largest profits as far as its production levels are concerned”.
“An agreement between Bollywood and Ciudad de la Luz would be the start of an important internationalisation process and would reinforce the audiovisual fabric of the Valencian Community in its search for potential business partners”, asserts Villanueva.
The Director-General also stressed that “recent international visits, such as those of Francis Ford Coppola and the American actor and producer, of Mexican origin, Edward James Olmos, as well as the international productions ‘Asterix at the Olympic Games’ and ‘His Majesty Minor’, are the fruits of the professional labor that has been carried out over a number of years at Ciudad de la Luz”.
The visit of the Indian producers has been organized by the Valencian Institute of Exportation (IVEX) in collaboration with the Ciudad de la Luz cinematographic studios and the Valencian Chamber of Commerce. Other entities from within the sector have collaborated in the organization of this important meeting, for example, Affiliated Audiovisual Enterprises of Valencia (EAVF) and the Center for the Dynamization of the Valencian Audiovisual Sector (CEDAV).
Bollywood, a cultural phenomenon
India has one of the oldest cinematographic industries in the world which has witnessed a spectacular growth over recent decades. Proof of this growth are the investments in Bollywood, which, according to the consultancy firm Pricewaterhouse Coopers, are estimated to have totalled 1,750 million dollars in 2006, and are set to reach 3,400 million over the next three years. Many specialists from the world of cinema believe that in less than ten years, Bollywood will dominate show business on a global level.
