The General Director of Ciudad de la Luz, José María Rodríguez Galant, attended the meeting with the media held to announce the filming of the Spanish production, ‘Castillos de Cartón’, by director Salvador García Ruiz

Rodríguez Galant said he considered positive “the presence of Valencian-born professionals, above all because of the essential part they are going to play during filming of ‘Castillos de Cartón’.”

Rodríguez Galant went on to say that thanks to this significant Valencian presence, “Ciudad de la Luz once again demonstrates its unconditional support of the audiovisual industry in our region.”

Rodríguez Galant pointed out, “At Ciudad de la Luz, literature and film go hand in hand, as, in the first three years of operation, we have shot several films based on works of literature, such as ‘La Dama Boba’, ‘Summer Rain’, ‘Possibility of an Island’, ‘Lolita's Club’, ‘Martes de carnaval’ and ‘Triage’.”

Four weeks of filming

The filming of  ‘Castillos de cartón’ is scheduled to be carried out over a period of four weeks on the film sets of the Ciudad de la Luz audiovisual complex, plus another six for set construction, assembly and dismantlement.

The new film by García Ruiz, director of ‘Mensaka’, ‘The Other Side’ and ‘Voices in the Night’, stars Adriana Ugarte (‘Doghead’), Nilo Mur (‘Melissa P’), Biel Durán (‘Salvador’) and the Mexican Cristian Magaloni (‘Ramírez’).

‘Castillos de cartón’ is a film based on the novel of the same name by Almudena Grandes, which tells the story of a group of young people who start their painting course at the Faculty of Fine Arts. Little by little, their friendship develops into a love triangle of sorts, that lasts until the end of the course, when they have to face the problems of the real world.

Further investment in the Region of Valencia

The production, with a duration of four weeks of filming,  plus another six for set construction, assembly and dismantlement, has a budget of 3,148,261 euro and has meant direct investment of 2,506,626 euro in the region. In total, 1,520 overnight stays in hotels throughout the province were required.

Additionally, these data indicating the impact of the filming must also take into account the 29 people, from technicians to artists, that have been signed up by the production firms.

A total of 20 Valencian businesses have also taken part and 536 extras sessions were required.

Valencian presence

In ‘Castillos de cartón’, the presence of Alicante and Valencia goes even further: there has been a noticeable presence of local actors from the region, such as Adán Rodríguez, Patricia Teruel, Lola Marcelli, Álvaro Aguilar, Toni Miso, Patricia Plaza, Fernando Ripoll, Diego Braguinsky, Javier Aguayo and Sergio Valiente. In this way, Ciudad de la Luz continues with its policy of promoting the professionals connected to the Valencian audiovisual industry and opening the doors for them to both the national and international cinematographic sector.

‘Castillos de cartón’ is the third production filmed at the industrial audiovisual complex, following ‘Siete Minutos’ and ‘Mentiras y gordas’, as part of the agreement signed by Ciudad de la Luz with the Tornasol production firm (‘The Oxford Crimes’, ‘Son of the Bride’, ‘Guantanamera’, ‘Land and Freedom’, ‘The Longest Penalty Shot in the World’, among others) this November. The Alicante-based Castafiore Films is the co-producer of the project.
