 Première 'Guantanamero'

In November 2007, Ciudad de la Luz celebrated a month of previews. The first production to be inaugurated during this great month was the film "Guantanamero". On 16th November, the red carpet was laid out once more at Navas cinema for the evening premiere of this personal and compelling film. Both the award-winning, Valencian director, Vicente Peñarrocha, and leading actress, Natalia Verbeke, were present at the event. The new film by Peñarrocha tells of a strange and enigmatic journey, which begins when a prisoner escapes from his torture and incarceration at Guantanamo. With this film, in 2005, the Ciudad de la Luz hosted the filming of its first internationally-acclaimed co-production.

Besides making use of the sets, workshops, warehouses and production buildings, this film christened the external film facilities of the Alicante audiovisual complex. Proof of this is the detailed, life-size reproduction of the Guantanamo headquarters.

"Guantanamero" had a budget of some 6 million euros, of which 3 million euros were a direct investment in the Comunitat Valenciana.
