The following definitions will help you to understand the concepts and terms used in the study programme:

CREDITS: A unit of measurement of the difficulty of a subject as used in the jargon of university bureaucracy. One credit corresponds to 10 hours of theoretical or practical classes, meaning that if a subject is worth 6 credits, then 60 hours of teaching are required for the classes. This evaluates the effort made by the teaching staff to transmit the knowledge and not the effort made by students to absorb it.

We distinguish between Theoretical Credits (TS), those taking place in the theory classrooms and which are equivalent to the time spent by the teaching staff to provide the theoretical tools you need to continue with the subject, and Practical Credits (PS), those taking place in the Laboratories and Workshops and which are equivalent to the time you yourself spend experimenting, developing and researching the theoretical knowledge you have acquired. We call the total of both credits the Total Credits (CT).

CORE SUBJECTS (TR): Those laid down by the Ministry of Education and Culture for obtaining the degree.

COMPULSORY SUBJECTS (OB): Those laid down independently by each University for obtaining the degree.

OPTIONAL SUBJECTS (OP): Those laid down freely by each University. They are designed to allow everyone to follow their own personal curriculum track.

FREE ELECTIVE (LE): The credits completed with those subjects, modules or seminars anywhere in the University to ensure flexible curriculum configuration. They can also be completed with Optional Subjects.
